Combined Heat and Power (CHP)
Using waste heat from electricity generation for district heating, industrial processes, or other thermal loads.
In a WTE CHP configuration, steam from waste combustion first drives a turbine for electricity, then the lower-pressure exhaust steam is distributed for district heating or industrial use. CHP can boost overall energy efficiency from 25% (electricity only) to 80%+ (electricity plus heat). Many European WTE plants operate as CHP facilities serving district heating networks.
