Renewable Natural Gas (RNG)

Biogas that has been upgraded to pipeline quality by removing CO₂, moisture, and impurities.

Renewable natural gas is produced by purifying biogas from anaerobic digesters or landfills to meet pipeline specifications (>95% methane). RNG is chemically identical to conventional natural gas and can be injected into the natural gas grid, used as compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicle fuel, or sold with environmental attributes under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and state low-carbon fuel standards.
